Twenty Princes Street Summer Lunch Menu Review

We were kindly invited along to sample the Summer Lunch menu at Twenty Princes Street, a contemporary restaurant with a modern Scottish menu, boasting skyline views in a great city centre location.

Read on to discover more about this summer special.

Menu
The lunch menu is a refined version of their main menu along with seasonal specials and offers a good selection of meat and veggie dishes at a very reasonable price; one course = £12, two courses = £16 and three courses = £20.

On our visit we opted for:

Starters
Soup of the day (mushroom and soya) served with toasted focaccia and beetroot salad with blue murder croutons. They were both beautifully presented and light enough not to fill too much before main course.

Main Course
I chose the slow braised pork belly served with red cabbage rumbledethumps. The pork belly was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection and the rumbledethumps (I love this word!!)) were very tasty. The red / purple colour contrast against the dark green cabbage upon which the dish was served worked really well from both a taste and presentation perspective.

Ross chose the three cheese Mac n Cheese with nachos and garlic bread. It was served in an iron skillet and we were expecting more of a bubbling bake to be presented, this was presented in more of a pasta and sauce style dish. The portion size was quite deceiving as it looked on the small side however Ross said it was very filling.

Dessert
We both opted for chocolate fudge cake with raspberry sorbet, again presentation was great. When cakes are so perfectly round I’m always sceptical that it will be a microwaved dried out sponge, this was certainly NOT the case here. Shape, texture and flavour were all spot on and the sharpness of the raspberry sorbet complemented the moist sponge perfectly.

Service
Each course was served very promptly and the staff were pleasant. Given the type of menu from which we were dining there wasn’t any need to consult so we’re unable to comment on the knowledge of the restaurant team.

Ambience
We visited on a sunny summer Thursday afternoon so considering the lack of sunshine lately I was surprised at how many covers were dining here – perhaps a testament to the good value of this menu.

We were lucky enough to enjoy a window seat and the view across Princes Street and out to the castle still impresses me, even after my 15+ years of residency here.

When we left the restaurant Juniper Bar was quite a hive of activity too.

Final Thoughts
Good value, pleasant surroundings and prompt service. I’d recommend this menu for a business lunch or a quick bite whilst enjoying a day in the city.
