New Restaurant The Palmerston Has Opened Its Doors In Edinburgh’s West End

The new restaurant is located in Edinburgh’s West End, no surprise it’s on Palmerston Place.

We had a sneak peek last night and had a fab time, the food was delicious, the ambiance relaxed and the team was really fun and knowledgeable. We especially liked, (ok, loved!!) the eclectic choice of wines.

The restaurant, which was a former 20th-century bank, now has a real ‘neighbourhood’ vibe and the minimalistic, somewhat industrial décor adds character. The banks’ original vault is now the wine cellar. Super cool!

Laid-back dining is what’s on offer and the restaurant will not only serve evening meals but run an all-day service; from coffee and freshly baked pastries for brekkie or the commute, through to an informal bar for drinks and light lunches. There is also space for private events too.

The seasonal menu will showcase the best food and drink from across Scotland featuring produce from quality suppliers including award-winning Ardoch Hebridean Sheep and Edinburgh’s famous Welch Fishmongers.

Slightly closer to home The Palmerston will also have their own in-house butchery, and will ‘reverse engineer’ many of the tasty dishes on the menu – what dishes can be crafted by the fresh produce they have.

Last night we sampled:

Chunky warm bread and butter

Starters: i) Crab and tomato tart and ii) Warm bacon salad.

Mains: i) Roast venison, olive oil potatoes, spinach and girolles and ii) Grilled mackerel with roast peppers, butterbeans and salmoriglio.

Dessert: i) Rum baba and cream and ii) Choux bun, custard, apricot jam and oloroso.

Produce will also come from beyond the borders, with their superb selection of wines, carefully chosen from vineyards from around the world. The bar will also stock craft beers from Newbarns Brewery and premium gin made by Electric Spirits Co.

The founders, James Snowdon and Lloyd Morse, are two young and energised souls, who have a clear vision for their new restaurant venture.

Lloyd Morse, Co-founder and Head Chef, said, “Our main goal is to champion the world-renowned produce here in Scotland and the UK. Taking an ingredients-first approach to developing our menus, we’ll fill the kitchen with seasonal ingredients sourced from the best producers.

Our Thoughts

Our first impression was a very good one. We will definitely be back to support this new restaurant – it deserves to succeed!
