Melrose Spa at Radisson Blu Review

As far as spa addresses go in Edinburgh it doesn’t get much better than the Royal Mile and the Melrose Spa by Sleeping Beauty is a sleek modern oasis of luxury and relaxation tucked away in the luxurious Radisson Blu Hotel. The spa offers a wide range of treatments and experiences as well as a pool and gym. I was kindly invited along to experience one of their fabulous mens treatments recently so read on to discover more.

The Spa

Melrose Spa is run by the Sleeping Beauty Spa group who have five spas across Scotland this spa had three treatment rooms as well as a double room for couples and a dedicated nail-bar. If you fancy making a day of it you can buy a package and use the pool (pool, sauna and steamroom) facilities and if you are feeling extra energetic there is a gym too. Melrose spa uses a range of products from the premium Elemis skincare range so treatments leave your skin leaves feeling beautifully rejuvenated.

Treatments

The spa have an excellent range of treatments; from facials – the Elemis Taster Facial is ideal if it’s your first facial experience through to more indulgent facials like the Superfood Pro Radiance which caught my eye which promises to leave skin feeling plump and radiant! Who doesn’t love a massage and with 8 different types to choose from there will definitely be something to suit you! Basic 30 minute back, neck and shoulder massages start at  if you like it a bit harder their Thai massage starting at £45 is the one to go for and if you just want to completely chill, their Hot Lava Shell Massage starting at £45 sound divine!

I was there so try a Male grooming experience and their range of options for men is excellent. Some options include their Energiser Facial which claims to maximise cell regeneration as well as boosting blood circulation. Their Deep Tissue Massage includes detoxifying Juniper berry, circulation stimulating Rosemary and warming Black Pepper. (30 min). If you want a complete pampering session go for the Total Time out (which I did) this combines both a high performance facial with a Back, Neck and Shoulder Massage!

My Treatment Experience

I started my experience at Melrose Spa using their pool, sauna and steam-room to unwind. Being part of the hotel (you can access the spa directly without needing to go through the hotel) the pool was very quiet so I had the place to myself. The pool is a good size for doing lengths and the sauna and stream room are perfect for clearing your head-space before a treatment. After unwinding in the steam-room I donned my fluffy robe and slippers and made my way back to the spa to meet my therapist Nicole and taken to my treatment room.

The room was calming with candles and limited soft lighting for illumination and relaxing hypnotic spa music played in the background. In the middle of the room was the treatment bed covered in a range of blankets to keep you cozy during the session. Nicole started with the usual medial consultation then we moved onto choosing my oils for the massage. After smelling three I opted for the energy oil which was fruity and uplifting.

So The Total Time Out is exactly that! 90 Minutes of complete bliss. It starts with a Facial we used 9 different products from the Elemis range, with the facial using products from the cleanse and exfoliate range, moisturise and boost, pro-collagen, nourish and smooth and skin scrub range. We then got 3/4 of the way through the facial and soothing cucumber was placed on my eyes. We moved onto the massage part of the treatment, I opted for a medium strength message focusing on my back and shoulders. At various points thought the massage when I was lying on my front I was asked to take three deep breaths and I inhaled the oil under my nose. Now I have to mention that this is a good length of time for a massage it isn’t over and done with quickly, you have the time to completely relax during this treatment. After the massage we moved back to the end of the facial process. I was then gently told the treatment was over by which point I was completely chilled out in a virtually meditative state and it took me a good few minutes to come round.

I left feeling rejuvenated!
