Edinburgh’s First Malaysian Bak-Kut-Teh Kitchen To Open This Month

MK Kitchen is launching as Edinburgh’s first Malaysian specialty Bah-Kut-Teh Kitchen, officially opening on the 20th of October. Sister restaurant to Macau Kitchen in Newington, MK Kitchen will focus on authenticity and simplicity by channelling Bak-Kut-Teh shops in the streets of Malaysia.

Bak-Kut-Teh is a traditional dish made of pork slowly stewed in a complex broth of Chinese herbs, spices, and soy for several hours. It literally translates from Hokkien as ‘meat-bone- tea’ and is said to have many medicinal and healing properties in its original form.

Balance of flavour is an art form in the making of Bak-Kut-Teh. The chef/owner of MK Kitchen has been trained and inspired by some of the best Bak-Kut-Teh Masters in Malaysia, and is channelling his family heritage by bringing these unique flavours to Edinburgh.

The launch party for the restaurant is on the 20th of October between 12-2:30pm at MK Kitchen, 13 West Crosscauseway, and will be a truly Malaysian affair. The party is open to the public and guests will be able to take advantage of free Bak-Kut-Teh samples and learn about this traditional dish.
