Bruntsfield’s New Winery and Dinery Decanter To Open Mid-December

Decanter Winery and Dinery, Edinburgh’s newest wine bar and restaurant, is joining the Bruntsfield community in December and hopes to quash the wine bar stereotype.

Decanter’s aim is to provide diners with a casual way to explore wine with no pretention, while still boasting a carefully selected wine list. This will be served with a menu of locally- sourced comfort food, creating a cosy and welcoming environment for Edinburgh locals. Their cheeky tagline of ‘winery and dinery’ embodies the ‘not taking themselves too seriously’ ethos that Decanter promises.

Jonathan and Billy, the restaurant’s owner and head chef respectively, want to make wine accessible and provide high quality food to the local area by creating a space that’s ‘not your average wine bar and restaurant’.

‘We feel that wine can often be intimidating, so we’re trying to take all that fuss away. Instead of stuffy and pretentious, think quirky pairings, cool labels, and just really great food. We clearly look casual with our beards and tattoos – we’re just two friends passionate about high quality food and wine in the local neighbourhood that we love’.

Located on the former site of Inca, the restaurant’s launch will be in two phases. This December, upstairs will open as a light and airy bar and restaurant giving out onto Bruntsfield Place. In the spring however, the edgy downstairs space will come to life. Details for this space are still under wraps, but Jonathan and Billy hint at a speak-easy atmosphere, private dining, and an impressive cocktail list.

Decanter is set to open in mid-December. Details of the launch and upcoming events will be available on Decanter’s website and social media pages.
