Independent Gyms

With more of us joining gyms everyday to become healthier, look better or get stronger and live longer, choosing the right gym for you is important. While there is plenty of info on the big brand gyms in Edinburgh, you can find a fantastic sense of community in some of the smaller local independent gyms in the city. On top of that, you’ll be putting your money back into the local economy! Here’s a list of our favourites…

Cave Fit

A fantastic concept in Edinburgh, recently being sponsored by Under Armour, Cave Fit is a pay-as-you-train gym and set of group fitness sessions, covering all kinds of activities. This is the gym to choose if you like training with other people and the group dynamics that this brings!

Energy Gym

Energy Gym is a fantastic place to visit if you’re looking to build up your strength, are interested in Olympic Weightlifting or otherwise want to play with the newest toys in strength conditioning! Another plus point is that Energy Gym is a non-profit social enterprise, which means all the money they make is re-invested into the gym and local community initiatives. So not only will your body feel better, you’ll feel a bit prouder for helping your local community! Based just east of Slateford train station.

Fitness Soul

Finally, we have Fitness Soul. With an incredible story in the About Us section of their website, of a couple who decided to start their own studio, there is an incredible amount of character to this gym! They believe not just in physical strength, but mental wellness and spiritual care, and have classes of all kinds. They also cater to mothers with the Fitmama classes. This is truly a gym to join if you want to become part of a community too!
