World Photo Day

It’s World Photo Day on Saturday 18th August, and to celebrate, we thought it apt to round up some of our favourite Edinburgh-based Instagrammers who inspire us with their amazing shots of our magical city every day.

Daniel Sun, aka Sunxjin, has a love for extremely high places. His enthusiasm for hunting down the best vantage points in the city has meant he has been able to come up with some incredibly unique outlooks. His Instagram is full of dreamy pastel-toned landscapes and dusky cityscapes that will make you re-think your own Instagram theme. Daniel loves to find that one totally exclusive view in a city full of clichéd photo opportunities and we love him for it!

Wilde_oates

We love browsing Steve Oates’ Instagram feed because there is always sure to be a breathtaking vista or two. This photographer is a master at getting the money shots, but puts his own distinctive spin on things. Expect all the classic Edinburgh shots of castles, bridges, and cityscapes, but with a little extra. Whether it’s waiting for interesting weather or alluring light, or finding that slightly different angle, Steve presents Edinburgh in a dramatic but personalised way.

Laretour

Fans of the old architecture around the city will love this account! Edinburgh-based Laura is a fan of green spaces and picturesque buildings, something that is definitely reflected in her Instagram feed. We love her mix of big landscape shots interspersed with close ups of pretty architectural details. We are also big fans of the bright, dream-like theme she has going on which just adds to illuminate the wonderful architecture on our doorstep!

Simonjuho

Simon Milligan is a bit of a stalwart of the Edinburgh photography scene. There aren’t many places in Auld Reekie that this guy doesn’t know about or hasn’t captured. We really like his unique perspective on the city – he likes to seek out aspects that are interesting and new. Simon’s focus is often on the framing and composition of his images meaning his feed interprets the city in an original way, often with some really dramatic results.

Dom.visual

A post shared by Dominic Eardley (@dom.visual) on

If there is one Instagrammer who really captures the magic of Edinburgh, it’s Dominic. His high contrast and dark editing makes for some incredibly brooding cityscapes that emphasize the city’s darker side. His images heavily feature the stunning architecture of the city and are theatrical and melodramatic. We love how Dominic manages to lay bare the conflicting beauty and moodiness of the city and manages to really show how atmospheric Edinburgh can be!

Asdavideaspossible

Despite originally hailing from Italy, Davide is now a seasoned Edinburger and his eye for making the mundane exciting is what we enjoy the most. Most of his images are off the cuff, caught on his wanderings around the city, and without much planning. His images are slightly moody and reflect a certain peacefulness and tranquility – a not often seen side to this bustling city. Whilst Davide’s feed celebrates the everyday, you can still expect a healthy dose of showstoppers too!
