Meet the locals: Davide Verri

This month we chat to Edinburgh-based Instagrammer Davide Verri of Asdavideaspossible. Although he is originally from Italy, Davide quickly fell in love with Edinburgh when on holiday, and now calls the city home. We love his unique perspective on the city and he continues to surprise us with beautiful images of buildings and places in the city that we usually pass by unnoticed.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Davide Verri but on Instagram I am known as AsDavideAsPossible. I am originally from Italy, but I moved to the UK almost 7 years ago. London is where everything started. Being in as big a city as London, where you can find everything you need at anytime, was exciting. My passion for photography started growing more and more whilst living here. After a few years, I bought my first iPhone to capture what ever I came across! Last year I came for a holiday to Edinburgh and I fell in LOVE with the city.

This beautiful city inspired me a lot – I saw there was so many great photographic opportunities! During the day I work in The Refinery on St Andrew Square, a place with one of the coolest views on the square.

In 2015 I created my Instagram account to share my adventure around the UK and abroad, with my main focus being on Urban Photography. I want to inspire people as much as possible myself through my pictures.

What are your favourite places to eat and drink in the city?

There is a quite a good choice of dining and drinking places all around Edinburgh. It all depends where you are, in the Old Town or New Town, and what you feel like, European or traditional  Scottish cuisine? Do you want to drink local beers or delicious cocktails? For a more local feel the traditional pubs on the Southside such as Scotch Hops are great! I also really like going down to the modern bars and restaurants docks in Leith. Night Cap on Queen Street has a  great atmosphere later on in the evening!

Tell us about your favourite photography spots in Edinburgh – any little hidden gems you would recommend?

I have found many hidden gem in Edinburgh whilst I have lived here! Dean village is a magical and peaceful place -it’s definitely my favourite. The Old Town is fun to explore with all those closes and alleyways, and I would highly recommend exploring the Cowgate too as it is really interesting.

On a sunny day in Edinburgh I really enjoy going to Holyrood park and climbing Arthur’s Seat. The view is absolutely stunning! The colours of the sky during the sunset leave me without words. It is my moment to relax and get away from everything. I definitely suggest climbing the hill at dusk to experience this.

What haven’t you done yet but would like to do?

I have unfortunately never visited Edinburgh Castle! That’s definitely my own fault. What an incredible view over the New Town it has!

Describe your perfect day in Edinburgh!

My perfect day in Edinburgh would start with a breakfast on Leith Walk, before I would walk up into town to shoot some photos around the city. I wouldn’t plan but instead let myself photograph anything that attracts my attention in that moment. I would probably start at the New Town before heading down towards Stockbridge as this place always gives me a great feeling! I would try and swing by the Old Town to get a few images before ending the day up on Portobello beach in time for the sunset.
